Certificates enable users and applications to securely exchange information. The sender signs data that is delivered using the business services and the receiver authenticates the signer and verifies the integrity of the received data. There are two types of certificates that are issued by Swift.

• Business Certificates, stored on Hardware Security Modules (HSM). They provide Swift customers with a strong level of authentication and non-repudiation.
• Channel certificates, stored on disk that provides a mean for Swift to authenticate the identity of an application, or to secure the connection between a client application and Swift servers.

We recommend creating a dedicated certificate for Pilot and another one for Live to separate Pilot and Live usage and strengthen protection for your Live environment.
